Melissa Gillmer

            Melissa is a native of Jacksonville. She graduated from Stanton College Preparatory with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. A rowing scholarship enticed her to study at The University of Central Florida in Orlando, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders in 2000. Melissa graduated from the Florida State University in 2005 with a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

   

            Between degrees, Melissa worked for Nemours Children’s Clinic as part of the Newborn Hearing Screening program. For nearly four years, she also worked for Duval County Public Schools as a Speech-Language Pathologist with a Teacher’s certificate. She served children from ages 3 years -18 years. Her students included typically developing children with articulation disorders as well as children with severe developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome and other rare conditions. While working toward her Master’s, Melissa also completed internships with adults at a skilled nursing facility and the Lake City Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. In addition to her private practice, Melissa works for Nemours Children’s Clinic and Rehab Direct, LLC.

    

            In 2005, Melissa married Edward Gillmer. They are living happily ever after with their daughter, Gracelyn and their yellow lab, Yeager. Melissa and Ed enjoy reading, home improvement projects and flying in their spare time. The family attends Oceanway Assembly of God.
